AIDR Recovery Matters webinar series

Accessing professional development for disaster recovery roles isn’t always super easy, but there is a lot of stuff out there if you know where to hunt.

The Australian Institute of Disaster Resilience (AIDR) hosts webinars throughout the year as part of their ‘Recovery Matters’ program. You can sign up to the AIDR newsletters so that you can be a part of the event and watch them live, but they also have a growing back catalogue to work your way through.

Most of the webinars are focussed on a specific topic and have a panel of speakers who present a range of information on these topics, and then audience members have a chance to answer questions. Topics that have been covered include:

·      Indigenous perspectives on disaster recovery

·      Putting the ‘community’ in community led recovery

·      Youth voice and agency in recovery

If there’s a topic that you’re especially interested in, this site is a handy place, but I think that the real potential in this collection is for people who are new to their roles or want to invest time in professional development and upskilling. If you can block an hour or two in your calendar regularly (which I completely understand can be difficult to do, but so great if you can manage it), you can set yourself up to get a much richer understanding of the complexity of recovery and hear from a range of people with different experiences and perspectives.
